About Us

Who we are

We are airline freaks.
We love the smell of jet fuel more than the smell of roses.
The sound of a Rolls-Royce RB211 engine is music to our ears.
We do not drive somewhere if we can fly there.
We collect airlines, airports, aircraft types and airsickness bags.
We have a map with pins for all places we have been to.
And we travel a lot – you can find anyone of us on at least 6 flights each month.

What we do

We are airline employees just as you are.
We fly planes, service customers or sell tickets.
But we also like to travel. And this is why we built this site.

Why we do it

Working in the airline industry has its challenges.
But an undisputable perk are the travel benefits we have (stop whining now about full flights and getting bumped – that is part of the experience!).
Because we travel quite a bit we know one or the other secret but we wanted to find a tool that would allow us the get even better travel information. Preferably from people who know what they are taking about when it comes to going to new places.
People like airline employees.

How we do it

We could not find the tool we wanted, so we decided to build it ourselves.
With Layoverinfo we give you a platform to find and share travel information and interline discounts.
We provide you with a networking tool to connect with like-minded people.
We offer you and instrument to get a lot more out of traveling as an airline employee.

But for this instrument to work we need you help. You have to provide your thoughts, recommendations, warnings, tips and ratings. Your interaction with the site and with fellow users will make Layoverinfo the best stop for travel information on the web.

Where we are

Layoverinfo is brought to you from Portland, Oregon (Airport Code PDX if you happen to have forgotten it). This is why we have at the moment more information about Portland than any other city and this is why it is a good idea to check out the Portland pages to understand the power and possibilities of Layoverinfo. Click here if you want to see the Portland pages.

How it works

Some of you have asked us what technology we use to built and run Layoverinfo.
The Layoverinfo websites are programmed in Ruby using the Rails web application framework. For the database management system Layoverinfo uses MySQL, an open source database system that is well suited for handling the complex data of the site.
